About Me

My photo
I love God and my family very much. I have a pretty big family and they are all amazing! I love my wife, Ashley. We just got married August 13, 2011! :) I love many different sports, playing and watching. I like being active, but I love relaxing when I can. I work full time at the Financial Aid Office at Central Michigan University. I am also going to school full-time, working on my Master's in Administration, with a focus in Information Resource Management.

New blog

I have a new, home-made blog. I have my own website now, and I decided to make a section for my own blog. So now I can do whatever I want with it. You can go to www.tonyrhodes.com/blog. It might be easier to use a site like blogspot, but I find it more fun to use my own site that I created using my own brain and straight-coding. Yup, I'm pretty proud of it. :)

Busy doing nothing

It's crazy that I thought I would have such a wide open schedule this semester, yet I can't find time to get anything done. This weekend was very busy so I couldn't get a whole lot done.

On Friday/Saturday I helped out the Youth Group at their 2nd Kind-of-Annual All-Night Party. It started at 7 PM Friday night and ended at 7 AM Saturday morning. Wow. That was rough. But it was fun. There were 2 Air-Hockey tables, a foosball table, a ping-pong table, 2 Wii systems, X-Box 360 with Rockband, tons of food, and tons of pop. So I slept most of Saturday during the day.

Today, which was Sunday, Marcus and I set up our DJ stuff in Mount Pleasant for a Bridal Show. We are now partnering with Rusch Entertainment and Show CFX, which is the Mobile Entertainment for a radio station in Mount Pleasant. We basically just had to look good. We had another lady there that did most of the talking. So we didn't really have a whole lot to do, but it's always hard work setting up the equipment and then tearing it down. So that wore me out big time.

Now it is almost time to eat some amazing turkey, mashed potatoes, green been casserole, cranberry jelly, and pumpkin pie. Mmmmmm.....

The song you sing

I am very good at listening to songs, singing along with ones I like, and leaving it at that. I am very bad at looking at the meaning behind the music, and listening carefully to the lyrics. However, today I listened to "The Song you Sing" by Creed for about the 100th time. It got towards the end and it said "It's the song you sing, it's the life you bring." This made me hit the rewind button to listen to it again. The chorus goes like this...

"Does the song you sing have enough meaning
Inspire us to sing along
Does the song you sing keep echoing
Inspire us to sing the song you sing"

This meant something to me. It made me think about my life and made me wonder if I am doing enough to make my life mean something. Am I giving it everything I've got? Am I living the way I should? Do I treat people right? Do I treat myself right?

I know I don't do everything exactly the way I should, and I want to make extra effort to focus on the meaning and purpose of my life. I guess you could call it a late New Year's Resolution. I have no specific goal, except to take extra effort to be a better person...a better Christian, a better son, a better brother, a better Uncle, a better boyfriend, a better friend, a better co-worker.

"Woke up and had a face-to-face
Guess my reflection had a lot to say"

That is the very beginning of the song. I guess that is what happened to me in the car today while listening to that song.

Job hunting

The Spring Semester officially began today and I am pretty excited about it. I think it may be the first time I have ever been excited about school starting. I only have one class...which I will enjoy, I work about 12 hours a week...which I will enjoy until the piddly paycheck comes every other Thursday, and I am interning for my church designing a website...which I am also very excited about. My schedule is going to be more open, which is hopefully going to help me look for jobs for after graduation in May.

I applied for a job with Facebook late last week that I am pretty excited about. It would be awesome to get it, but I'm not banking on it. It is for doing coding type things...using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I looked at the benefits they give employees and it would be amazing to have that as my first real job after college.

I also learned today that it might be possible for me to be hired in as a temp after graduation in my current position at the Financial Aid Office at Central. That's exciting to me also because it is kind of a back up plan if I can't find another job. I could probably even back out of it last minute and they would understand.

I'm not going to quit looking for jobs, but I can rest a little easier now that I know I will probably have some options. Last resort option would be going back to school and that doesn't sound fun at all. More money, and more time doing things I don't like. I need to work in the opposite direction...getting out of debt!
